Dr Geoffrey Stevenson has degrees from the universities of Oxford, Durham and Edinburgh and he currently teaches in the areas of preaching, communication and media studies at the School of Divinity, University of Edinburgh, where he is an Honorary Fellow. From 1996 – 2005 he was Director of the Centre for Christian Communication at St John’s College, University of Durham, where he also lectured and taught.
Prior to that he worked for 16 years as an actor. A deviser and performer of his own mime theatre shows, he toured extensively throughout the UK and Europe performing in churches and small-scale theatres.
In addition to various articles, book chapters and book reviews, he has published two books in the 80’s on mime theatre in the church and more recently three on preaching: Pulpit Journeys (2006), Preaching With Humanity (2008 co-authored with Stephen Wright), and (as editor)The Future of Preaching (2010).
His research interests include the role of the arts in religious expression and the contribution made to peacebuilding by the arts, particularly photography and theatre.
